Delaney was surrendered to Dachshunds Only Rescue by her owner, who stated she had a “small growth” on her foot but the vet said no action was needed as it wasn’t growing or bothering her. That “small growth” was a ping pong sized cancerous tumor! Our vet did a remarkable job of removing the tumor and saving all of her toes, but due to it’s location, it was impossible to get a clean margin of tissue. We were heartbroken for this wonderful doxie and shed many tears. Then, one of our previous adopters said that although they couldn’t afford drastic treatment if it became needed, they could afford lots of love and would give Delaney a happy, loving home for the rest of her days. When I took Delaney to meet them, we all got a surprise. There was a new roommate in the house, Ron, a cancer survivor himself. From the first moment, it was love between man and dog, each of them rescuing the other. On Ron’s birthday, I made it official and gave Delaney to him forever. We’ll worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes. Dachshunds Only will be here to help with her medical care should the need arise. In the meantime, “who rescued whom?” puts a smile on all of our faces
