With all the abuse in the headlines, it’s good to read about people like Charlie Brown’s humans. The health care and love this boy is blessed with is heartwarming to hear about.
Posted by: https://www.f…acebook.com/CharlieBrownTheHandicapableDoxie Dedicated to educating people about IVDD – And sharing Charlie’s life and adventures with others! Charlie Brown Hurt his back March 3rd 2011. He started acting like he did not feel well and we were concerned he had eaten something and took him to our vet late that afternoon. After quick look over our vet thought he might be having some back pain and wanted to give him a steriod injection. Unfortunatelay we had given him a baby asprin about 2 hours before we took him to see our vet (in hindsight that was mistake # 1) so he could not get the steriod injection, he was given some meds for his stomach ( we thought he might have eaten part of his blanket) and some pain medicine we all went home to rest. He started acting like he did not want to walk he would go a couple steps and you could see he was in pain. we went back to our vet 1st thing the next morning. This time our vet said Charllie had deep pain sensation left but need to be seen by a specailist who could do surgery if needed. We rushed him to Greenville, SC to Upstate Veterinary Specialists a WONDERFUL man Dr. Sean Morrison performed a hemilaminectomy on T-12 and T-13. Charlie stayed at the clinic for the next 5 days. That was so hard for us. We did not visit because of his SEVERE seperation anxiety we were worried our visit would do more harm than good.We finally got to bring him home with orders of STRICT crate rest. Since Charlie hates crates we got hime a kids port-a-crib,this was perfect. It kept him quite and safe but without the stress of feeling locked up. We started physical therapy and acupuncture after eight weeks of recovery. Charlie still has not recovered use of his rear legs or bladder. Dispite that he is pain free and a happy boy! We continue to go to physical therapy weekly with Megan at WAGHAB and acupunture every six week at Pets & People Acupunture. He has a set of wheels from Eddies Wheels that he LOVES to get out and about in and a stroller made by Petgear that is perfect for when he is tired out but still wants to be on the go. We feel blessed that we still have him with us as he bring so much joy to our lives :-)
